Expert Spotlight: Frank Kern – Hosted by Mikael Dia

From Door-to-Door Salesman to Top Internet Marketer

If you’ve spent any time at all in the digital marketing industry, you probably know Frank Kern.

I recently had the pleasure of sitting down to pick his brain about being one of the original internet marketers and talk about his techniques and why he has been so successful.

His “not so humble” humble-brag is: “I’m Frank Kern and I can and will help you. You know this is probably true because I’ve been doing it since 1999.” And it’s true.

Frank is truly amazing at what he does, so if you’re into sales copy, optimizing your marketing campaigns and making money as an entrepreneur, this interview is a must-watch.

Getting Started in Internet Marketing

Frank Kern started out as a struggling door-to-door credit card machine salesman in the late 90s. He realized he wasn’t very good at in-person sales and turned to the internet to find out how to sell differently.

I can’t remember the search engine, it wasn’t Google because it wasn’t around, but I typed in ‘how to sell credit card machines on the internet’, because I didn’t want to be rejected all the time in person.

He clicked on a banner ad that lead to an early long-form sales page for a marketing course. He convinced a buddy to go in on the course with him, sharing the expense of the audio tapes and manuals.

From that initial introduction into internet marketing, he started selling courses and reprints of direct mail seminars, then started to pioneer the techniques, copy writing skills and marketing methods that have gotten him where he is today.

The Magic Formula for Writing Good Sales Copy

Are you familiar with this marketing copy writing timeline?

  1. Think about doing it for a week (while anguishing about it)
  2. Complain about doing it for another week until two days before it needs to be done
  3. Then write it and put it on the market

As digital marketers, I think we have all been there at one point or another, whether it’s marketing copy, Facebook Ads, a social media calendar or any other thing we know we need to do but kind of want to put off.

But, as Frank insists in the interview:

There’s no way to get good at writing other than to simply write.

You need to show up and do the work to get good at anything… whether it’s internet marketing, building sales funnels, social media or any other area where you struggle or procrastinate.

Frank and I talked about some of the key areas where marketers struggle – including writing sales copy and making the most of social media – so if you relate, you’ll find some really valuable information in this video.

And if you’re still not convinced…

Here are 5 more reasons you should take 45 minutes to watch this interview:

  1. You think this guy – who has been crushing the internet marketing game for 20 years – might have something to teach you
  2. To learn his process for writing copy and how many tries it takes to “get it right”
  3. Frank’s “magic formula” for how to structure your copy
  4. To learn how your social media presence can make you (free) money
  5. Because you have been relying on email marketing and it doesn’t have the presence and reach it used to

If any of those five things resonate with you, you’ll definitely learn something from this interview.
