This isn’t just a marketing tip or a funnel hack – it’s how to get ahead as an entrepreneur
It might seem a little woo-woo, but if you stick with me for a few minutes I will teach you something my dad taught me when I was a kid: a simple method of achieving goals that I use to this day because I truly believe it’s how the universe works.
If you would rather watch the video for this key business (and life!) success tip, you can do that right here:
How to Achieve Any Goal in Business and in Life
This isn’t a specific hack for entrepreneurs, or some sort of totally arbitrary system you need to follow to “achieve your dreams.” If done right, it will likely be a lot of work. But I have lived my life by these three rules since my dad taught them to me at a young age, and now I want to share them with you.
Rule #1: Clear Vision
The very first thing you need if you want to achieve any goal in life is to have a super clear, vivid vision of your goal.
For example, if you want to buy a house, you need to know exactly what it is you want. You need to know what neighborhood you want to purchase your home in. You need to know what your house looks like, how many bedrooms, whether or not it has a yard. You need to be absolutely clear on your vision for your future home.
It’s exactly as true in business as it is in buying a house. If you want to have a massive business and a team of 200 people, you need to know where your business will be located, how your office will look, what you want your company culture to be. You need to be super clear on what you want before you can start to build.
One method for figuring out exactly what you want your goal to be is to create a “vision board” around it, a method that was popularized by the book “The Secret.” The goal is to put your hyper clear vision out there in a tangible way.
Rule #2: Take Action
Now that you have your super clear vision of your goal, it’s time to take action.
Here’s where a lot of people get tripped up: they keep researching, they keep reading books or blogs and taking in information toward building their goal and consider that taking action.
Research, taking in information, only clarifies your goal. It is part of your first step. At this point you have to actually take action. You need to take a step down the path toward your vision.
What should you do? That depends on your goal, but you don’t have to have it all planned out. You don’t need to know the exact path to get from where you are right now to your goal. You need to make what Oprah calls the “next right move” – take a step in the direction of your goal.
If you want to start a business that makes a million dollars a year, you have to take the first step toward starting your business. If you want to lose weight, you have to start taking action on the plan that seems right for you.
It’s fine if it turns out to be the “wrong” step, if you go off “plan” or have to redirect. The important thing is that you take action and start moving toward your goal.
You can read all the books you want, but if you don’t take action it doesn’t really matter.
Rule #3: Have Faith
This is the most important rule, and also the hardest one for some of us.
You have to believe that your vision is going to become a reality, no matter what. You have to have faith.
If you truly believe that you can build this incredible company, be this fit person, buy that house, have unlimited money… it can happen. But you have to clearly define what you want, take action, and have absolute faith.
One Last Thing: Life is Unpredictable
A quick caveat… It may not all happen in the way that you planned at the beginning.
Sometimes our visions change while we’re on our way to our goal. Sometimes life happens. Sometimes you start on a path and it starts to close, but another path opens. It may take longer than you anticipated. Maybe your goal was to be a millionaire by 30 but both you and the universe needed a little more time to make it happen, or you encountered some speed bumps along the way. That’s okay.
As long as you have pure belief that it will eventually happen, you continue to take action, and you have a very clear vision for the outcome, then there is no way for you to fail.
You just need to get back up, dust off your shoulders and keep going. Keep moving forward. You’ll get there.
And I’ll see you on the other side!
